About Us
First and foremost, we aim to do everything with a smile on our faces!. We pride ourselves on events that are well-put together and professionally organised, but that retain a sense of humour, chilled-out atmosphere, are very inclusive, and great value for money. This is all supposed to be fun - right?.
Durty Events grew out of the first Durty Triathlon held in 2008. The company is run by Paul McGreal, and is based in the glorious Scottish Borders. Paul has been an active multisport racer for longer than he's prepared to admit. His sporting journey began when he discovered Orienteering whilst at school thanks to an inspirational and generous teacher. That led to hill racing, mountain marathons, adventure racing, mountain bikes, road bikes, cyclocross, (poor) swimming, and triathlon - including racing for the GBR Age Group Team at four European and one World Championships (but not being anywhere near the medals!).
Paul was the course planner behind the epic 2-Day ACE Dirty Weekend race in the Borders in 2008. He was also the Race Director for the ITU World Duathlon Championships held in Edinburgh in 2010. He acted as Race Director for the Elite Super Series Triathlon at Strathclyde Park in 2011 and 2012. He is a member of the Triathlon Scotland Board of Directors with responsibility for the development of off-road racing in the country. Whilst we're banging on about this kind of thing, Paul is currently the GE GBR Age Group Team Manager for the European and World Cross Triathlon Championship teams.
Here's a nice profile that Scotland Outdoors magazine (www.scotoutdoors.com) carried in their Autumn 2012 issue - LINKY
Prior to Durty Events, Paul worked for 14 years as a Project Manager with Black Light Ltd - Scotland's leading performance lighting and sound company. He was responsible for the design and development of permanent installation schemes for theatres, community centres, schools etc - in effect, the installed lighting, sound, staging, AV and curtains. In order to pay the bills, Paul still works as a Freelance Consultant on projects of this nature - see www.paulmcgreal.com for more details.
