Selkirk MTB Marathon

Event on Hold for 2019 check back in 2020 for more info

This is THE classic MTB Marathon in the UK. The course is designed by trail-building legend (he’ll hate us for saying that!) Peter Laing, and has regularly been voted the best in the country.

Come and test yourself on a fantastic mix of natural singletrack, twin-track forest roads, ancient drove roads, hand-made singletrack, and trail centre. You’ll visit the valleys of the Rivers Tweed, Yarrow and Ettrick, and of course, the high points in between. So, expect lung and thigh busting climbs that are rewarded with epic grin-inducing descents.

We’re pleased to be able to say: E-Bikes are welcome!.

All courses are mainly natural ‘real’ mountain biking – big twin-track climbs, singletrack descents, twisty rooty stuff in the woods, mud (though we have occasionally had dry dusty years as well) and a short ‘hike-a-bike’ up one or two hills (unless you’re Alberto Contador). The courses are almost entirely tarmac free other than the group roll out from the centre of Selkirk.

The 50KM course is mostly somewhere between Blue and Red in technical difficulty. The descents are a mixed bag, mostly Red, some are between Red + Black and a couple would be considered Black. It’s all natural stuff though, so can change quickly, and especially in bad weather.

The 25KM is a bit easier – more gentle stuff, but still some good, fun singletrack, and a hefty climb (to the top of the Three Brethren!) to contend with.

Start time: everyone will start at 10am in Selkirk. Then follows a neutralised zone to Bowhill Estate, then let the riding begin!.

Minimum Age for solo participation is 16 (25K, 50K, RAID) (age is counted at 31st Dec 2018), however we will allow 12-15 year-olds to take part on the 25K course if they are accompanied by an adult (one adult per 12-15 yo).
